Ijeoma Akaogua scientific officer with the Department of Agricultural Biotechnolog yNational Biotechnology Development Agency AbujaNigeria is from Anambra stateone of the South-East states of the country.She had her B.Sc. degree in Plant Science and Biotechnology from Imo State University (IMSU) Owerri in 2007 and M.Sc. in Agronomycrop science option and specialty in Plant breeding from University of IbadanOyo State with scholarship with the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) in 2011. She is currently pursuing her PhD with the West Africa Center for Crop Improvement (WACCI) with her research titledGenetic Analysis of Drought Tolerant Maize Inbred lines with Striga resistance genes from Zea diploperrennis and Identification of quantitative traits loci (QTLs) for Striga resistance. She hopes to achieve the green revolution in Africa by breeding high yielding maize hybrids which combines both Striga resistance and drought tolerant genes in them thereby improving the livelihood of our farmers (poverty alleviation) and enhancing food security in the sub-region.
