In her master thesisshe did the genetic diversity study of local collection of fonio (Digitaria exilis Stapf) germplasm including some cultivars from Guinea and Mali using RAPD markers. For her PhD work sponsored by the West Africa Agricultural Productivity Programme (WAAPP)Bathe DIOP intends to improve lowland rice elite varieties for iron toxicity tolerance specifically in the Casamance region in Senegal. Iron toxicity is one of the main abiotic factors limiting rice production in Senegal. This work will therefore lead to vast majority of arable lands therefore greatly increasing crop productivity and farmersincomes.
