Afolayan Gloria

Afolayan Gloria (Nee Obianugba) hails from Delta state of Nigeria and was born into a nuclear family as the fourth of six children. Agriculture had never been of interest to her despite being born into a family where the practice was a daily activity.
p She wanted to study computer science but as God would have itshe is now into the field of agriculture and she is saying no going back.  Gloria obtained a Bachelor's degree in Plant Science at the University of Ado-EkitiNigeria and a Master's degree in International Horticulture at the University of HannoverGermany with a research work titled "QTL detection and ecophysiological modeling of pre-flowering sorghum development under well watered and drought stressed condition". She later got employed as a scientific officer at the National Centre for Genetic Resources and Biotechnology (NACGRAB) IbadanNigeria in the Biotechnology Unit. The use of biotechnological tools in crop improvement has become her goal after her Masters' study. For her PhD workshe intends to meet Sorghum farmer and industrial needs by employing molecular tools on the improvement of sorghum cultivars in Nigeria which she consider a crop of the next generation base on its increasing worldwide use.  Getting a PhD scholarship in the developing countries is not so easy. So many people are out there with great ideas but without sponsor. For this she is saying a big thank you to the organizers of WACCI PhD programme and she has a great assurance that these four years are going to be a great success for her.
