Abebrese Samuel Oppong

Samuel Oppong Abebrese was born to Mr. S.O. Abebrese a teacher and Madam Theresa Tawiah a rice farmer at Nobewama small rice growing community in the Ejisu Juaben District of GhanaSamuel in his early days helped his parents on the farm mostly scaring birds.
Learning the science of genetics has been his hobby right from secondary school biology classes. The opportunity to pursue a BCs. degree course in agriculture at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) enabled him to move his interest in genetics to a higher pedestal. He served as a teaching and research assistant with the Department of Crop and Soil SciencesKNUST for his national service. He obtained a scholarship from AGRA to pursue an MSc. in Plant Breeding in the same university after his national service.  After his MSc. Programmehe worked as a rice breeder at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research -Savanna Agricultural Institute (CSIR-SARI)Tamale in Ghana. He again won AGRA's scholarship to study Plant Breeding at the PhD level at the West Africa Centre for Crop Improvement (WACCI)University of Ghana.  To Samuelhis admission into the WACCI PhD Programme is a dream come true and he will work hard to develop improved rice varieties for resource-poor farmers in Ghana and the rest of Africa.
